African Union Sports Ministers meeting calls for AUSC games bids
The 1st Session of the African Union of Sports Council AUSC
Region 2 Ministers Meeting has ended at the ECOWAS Parliament Auditorium Abuja
with a call for bids for the hosting of the Maiden AUSC Region 2 Games. In
addition, member countries were enjoined to indicate interest to host the next
meeting scheduled for August, 2018.
The final day’s session which was chaired by the Minister of
Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung directed the secretariat to identify
alternative sources of funding for consideration and approval. Earlier, it
reviewed and recommended the Region’s Statutes, strategic plan for 2017-2024,
annual subscriptions by member states, an organizational chart, office and
administrative structures for effective management of the AUSC Region 2.
In a
communiqué signed by the President of the session, the AUSC thanked the federal
government of Nigeria for hosting the session and according diplomatic status
to the AUSC Region 2 Headquarters and its secretariat staff.
It also extolled
President Buhari for providing the take off funds for the management of the
secretariat ahead of contributions from member nations and for engaging pioneer
staff to facilitate the smooth running of the secretariat. It recommended that
the proposal on annual subscriptions be transmitted to member nations through
their respective embassies in Abuja and also approved the remittance of 50% of
its annual subscription to the African Union Sports Council Headquarters in
Yaoundé Cameroon.
